Meet Our Staff

Dr. Enrico Mango is assisted in his office with highly qualified, and experienced physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. He also has a large, caring staff of medical office personnel, most of whom have been with him for over 15 years.

Services performed in his office include radiological evaluation, joint viscosupplementation, trigger point injections, medical massage with acupuncture, and ultrasound-guided platelet rich plasma injections.

Essentially all of his surgeries are performed as an outpatient at North Shore Surgi-Center in Smithtown, NY, where he has been one of the major principles at this state of the art, multispecialty ambulatory surgery center.

Melissa Nocella-Thakkar

Melissa Nocella-Thakkar has been a practicing Physician Assistant for over 10 years. She graduated from Hofstra University with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology and, later went on to pursue her post-graduate education at New York Institute of Technology where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Ms. Nocella-Thakkar graduated Magna Cum Laude and was the President of her graduation class. She is currently working to complete her Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies at University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Elizabeth J. Anderson, RPA-C

Elizabeth is board certified by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants she comes to us from a multispecialty orthopaedic group in lower Manhattan.

Elizabeth completed her degree in physician assistant studies at Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University at Buffalo and graduated with Honors while competing as a NCAA Division I track & field athlete as a pole-vaulter and a 400m hurdler.

She is an active member of the Physician Assistants in Orthopaedic Surgery, American Academy of Physician Assistants, and New York State Society of Physician Assistants.

Peggy Herzberg - Nurse Practitioner

A lifelong Long Island resident, Peggy began her orthopaedic career in the 1970's as an athletic training student for Adelphi University . After graduating from Adelphi's School of Nursing , Ms. Herzberg began a 20 year career as an orthopaedic nurse and is certified in this specialty. She obtained her Post-Graduate Nurse Practitioner degree in 1998. Peggy has been a member of Dr. Enrico Mango's medical staff for 20 years.

As a researcher, both she and Dr. Enrico Mango have participated in national clinical trials for leading pharmaceutical corporations on the cutting edge of orthopaedic care.

Peggy has volunteered with the United States Organization of Disabled Athletes since the 1980's, serving on the Medical Staff for the Paralympic Trials for Barcelona , Spain , and in 1996, she was named to the Medical Staff at the Paralympic Games in Atlanta , Georgia . Her area of expertise was "athletics" track and field events for alternately able-bodied athletes.

Ms. Herzberg is a nationally recognized lecturer, speaking extensively to both medical and lay people alike. She is a charter member of LION (Long Island Orthopaedic Nurses) chapter of the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses and served as its vice president for 5 years. Peggy has served on local and national committees for NAON. In 2008, Peggy updated the core curriculum of study in Sports Medicine and Metabolic Bone Disease for the NAON orthopaedic nurse certification examination.
